We have all seen photos and video footage of the horrific damage done by the earthquake that occurred in Haiti on Tuesday, January 12th. The earthquake was a devastating 7.0 on the Richter Scale, with many aftershocks, 14 of which were between magnitudes of 5.0 to 5.9. The earthquake occurred just 16 miles outside Haiti’s captial city, Port-au-Prince. Major buildings were destroyed and the infrastructure was ruined. Also heavily damaged or destroyed were many of the normal avenues of help for the Haitian people, including a hospital and the United Nations headquarters for Haiti.
While the damage to buildings and infrastructure is bad, it does not even begin to measure up to the human toll of this disaster. Daily we have been bombarded with stories of the death, injuries, pain, and terror that has been inflicted on the Haitian people. The Red Cross has estimated that as many as 50,000 people have been killed. Over 3 million people have been directly affected by the earthquake, many with limited or no access to the basic necessities of life such as water, food, shelter and medical care. Relief efforts are underway, but help cannot come soon enough for the survivors of this tragedy.
Cavalier Distributing in Ohio has seen the plight of the suffering people in Haiti and has found a way to help. For the week of Jan 18-22 Cavalier Distributing will be donating $1.00 for the relief efforts in Haiti with each case of craft beer they sell. Cavalier Distributing is well known for the stellar craft beers they carry from a number of great craft breweries. You can help just by doing what you would normally do; we already buy and drink a lot of the great beers that Cavalier Distributing brings to us. So this week, take some time to stock up your beer fridge, buy beer to share with your friends, or have some craft beer with dinner. Maybe you can afford to do something extra and host a beer-themed dinner party using some of the wonderful beers from Cavalier’s great lineup in Ohio. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS BUY THESE BEERS FROM ANY STORE IN OHIO. But either way you’ll be helping the desperate people in Haiti.
Circle 3 has received two messages reflecting this from two separate individuals with Cavalier Distributing : “The week of Jan 18-22 Cavalier Distributing will be donating $1 from every case of beer sold from our warehouse in the state of Ohio. ” & “On Cavalier’s side of things, we are going to be donating $1 for every case of beer that we sell next week. In addition, Cavalier is going to match any donations that our sales staff makes next week as well.”
